Hi there, I’m Artyom. I’ve been a marketing manager for over 8 years covering a plethora of marketing activities for a number of tech companies. In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?
A professional with a growth mindset is a person who knows what metrics indicate product success, and what actions can be taken to improve these metrics. My strong belief is that for most of the companies the key metric is the growth of the monthly average usage (MAU), and the best actions to tackle this indicator are correct product decisions and conversion rate optimization (CRO) activities. If you have that rolling, building and implementing a marketing strategy with all kinds of paid and guerrilla communications, and even figuring out a pricing strategy, become joyful.
If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?
The topic would be called “Setting up correct marketing expectations”, because this is where companies fail most in my experience.
Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
Off the top of my head, one of the products I worked for had a slightly declining month-over-month usage. None of the marketing activities seemed to be helping. 20 custdev sessions later it became clear that we had overall performance issues (it was a desktop app and it was too slow), and bugs in the debugger (one of the key features). 2 years of prioritizing and delivering fixes for these issues resulted in the MAU growth from that time onwards. And that’s on a stagnant market.

We needed to accelerate revenue growth.
I reached out to a friend in the industry and together defined a list of possible partners with an overlap in customer base. Critically, we noted their interest areas & weaknesses. What can we offer them that is unique to us that they need? What would set them apart by partnering with us? We worked diligently on a pitch that focused on using our product to create an ecosystem with a unique value proposition. We won the partnership and gained access to their customer base and sales team giving us access to more and larger customers than we ever would have won on our own.
A true synergy is easy to sell and maintain.

March of 2020 everything shut down. I’m the CMO of a high-end media and book publishing company. We’re in trouble. What do we do? We decided to teach everything we know in live sessions on how to write, publish, and market a book in the 1st week of the lockdown. Since people weren’t traveling, not commuting, and were stuck at home they didn’t have the “I don’t have time” excuse. This led to over 20k people joining the first week. We held several more live and recorded sessions, and eventually created free video courses. It has resulted in several million in direct revenue. All from a fast pivot to provide people what we know for free, in a time where they welcomed the information and distraction from what was happening in the world.

I was working with a company that had just launched a couple years prior. They had a small blog that was unorganized, and lacked much brand credibility.
To help their growth, I created a blog strategy that was optimized around target keywords that would be key for us to rank for. I also knew I wanted to help boost their brand credibility by getting some high-quality mentions.
After implementing the strategy and regularly creating onsite content to build a web of authority, using digital PR to build credibility, and doing some SEO link acquisition to help with rankings, we were able to boost organic traffic to the site by 381%.

At Worldsensing, our success depends on how much value our technology portfolio adds to our channel partners. They are the ones who distribute, integrate or use our monitoring solution and are able to identify application areas and potential new markets that we are not always aware of. At Cognizant, I was responsible for the Communications, Media & Technology and Travel & Hospitality verticals with a combined target of €275 million, which we achieved within 10 months. I was also leading the marketing and branding for The Digital Studio, one of the largest (2,500 m2) digital design, innovation and delivery centers in the Benelux. In my current role, I am actively contributing to the commercial organization at Transmetrics, where I repositioned the company and its products to resonate better with the target audiences. This has dramatically increased our revenue, but more importantly it has shortened our sales cycles and made those first conversations a lot easier.

Helping people look at their pipeline in a way that enables them to move their deals forward faster, and close more of them at higher rates.
The sad fact is, the majority of business owners are way too reactive with their pipeline, and whatever sales they make, are usually underpriced.
Mentoring on how to actively, thoughtfully review people and opportunities, and which actions to take, is one of the most fun and rewarding things I can think of.

Faced with limited a limited budget, I ran an influencer marketing campaign I jokingly refer to as the “symbiosis model”.
The majority of the budget was used for a micro-influencer (with a demographic aligned with my brand persona & high levels of social proof) who produced and gave us rights to great quality content.
We later had pages dedicated to the niche post content produced by the influencer with special discount codes across their feeds. Designated attribution links allowed us to identify the highest converting pages & retarget users further down the line. With an initial CPM of under $0.60 USD.
