Strategy – How can you make sure you are creating something that will create sustainable value over time.
Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
During my time at Catho I re-oriented the company from revenue seeking to value delivery, creating a metric to measure the value delivered and increasing it over 50% YoY for 3 years in a mature product. This was a combination of things spanning from launching new features, like a “wikipedia for professions” to using AI to match job seekers and hirers to changing the compensation model for the Customer Success and sales teams to focus them on this value delivery. That also included involving my direct team and Catho’s shareholders, seek.com (an Australian group that invests in several job related web properties)

- build different buyer personas
- select the most popular channel for each buyer persona
- personalise and automate the communication
As a result
- CVR from an MQL to a closed deal increased by 30% without spending more money
- Retention also increased since Account Managers used the new infrastructure for personalisation and automation

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
I was brought into consult a few affiliates that wanted to get into Web 3. Their model was quite bizarre since they were trying to figure it out. They were treating the affiliates to have the NFTs which was broken. The simple solution was that the NFTs unlocked offers. This changed their model entirely. They now plan on going to projects and offer the holders further utility by finding brand partnerships. The NFTs were not supposed to be for the affiliates. The NFTs are for the traffic/consumers. They worked on this for 6 months before meeting and a 30 minute conversation changed the entire trajectory of their business.

Leveraging Growth to drive critical impact on the health of the business more broadly.
Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?

10. Mayssa Benchenaa
Describe yourself
Hey, I’m Mayssa (pronounced My-sa)
Currently working as a Senior Strategic Service Designer at Mach49 (I usually get a blank face when I share my title), essentially what I do is 2 parts.
- At Mach49 we build startups from the ground up for Corporates using our methodology which is focussed on customer pain and insights.
- My role within that was previously to help craft and design the venture pitch, however now I am working on how to make our tools, process, and experiences the best ever!
My superpowers are making sense of complexity (storytelling), asking why and speed!
I’m passionate about using my skills as a force for good, that’s why I’m here! Can’t wait to connect and help build great stuff 🙂
In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?
Stay inspired and help those who are trying to solve real problems. Grow my network and my confidence.
In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?
There are 2 types of people in the world.
- See problems, complain about them and eventually quit
- See problems as opportunities and take the initiative to do something and solve the problems!
In my opinion growth mindset represents option 2.
If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?
Storytelling is my bread and butter, in startup terms that’s creating your pitch deck.
Solving the biggest pain, in the biggest market, with the coolest product is only the start. You need to be able to express the who, what and WHY in a compelling way to get buy in from potential investors, employees and customers! Without a good story there is nothing there.
Why am I suited for the job? Throughout my career I have (unintentionally) focussed on and succeeded at helping businesses make sense of all their ideas (often a mess in their head) and turn them into clear, simple and beautiful visuals and stories.
Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
Problem: We would complain that our clients were not delivering on their tasks, quality of their work was low and that we would end up having to cover for them repeatedly.
Approach: I noticed this as a recurring pattern from project to project. Instead of complaining I thought, why is this happening and what is the problem? I identified that the clients were new to our ways of working (startup methods) and needed more upfront understanding of their role and expectations as well as tools to help them frame and lead their thinking.
Solution: In my free time I developed a set of tools and resources to help teams. My colleagues loved it, added some of their magic to make it even better. It is now widely used in the organisations and making teams work better and achieving greater results!

In just one sentence, why do you want to become a growth mentor?
To help others
In your words, what does a growth mindset mean to you?
A growth mindset it’s a holistic mindset that helps the company to focus on what matters; I’d dare to say, in most technology related startups, that’s focusing on finding a repeatable model in the early stage, and then scaling that model in later stages.
If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?
The one thing that I’m very good at is building fast and affordable MVPs – and that’s what I’d like to help others with. Alternatively, creating pitch decks and building teams is something where I can probably add some value as well.
Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
I’ve lead the digitalization on an entire department, on couple of occasions, achieving 300%+ efficiency through the use of simple technology.

It’s about defining and prioritizing what’s at the given moment is the most important in terms of company growth, looking from an impact vs effort perspective. It’s like being at a startup stage all the time – testing, cutting what doesn’t work, doing more of what does and moving forward fast. Working with data and being open-minded are a must.
If you could mentor a startup on one topic, what would it be?
It will have to be two – Performance Marketing & Marketing Operations. All about optimization, automation, working with data and focusing on improvements.
Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
Creating a really cool framework (channels – user journey with other elements) for the company that I worked for at the time to be asked by an account manager of one of the advertising giants if they can use it with their other clients just so it was brought back to me a year later by a different rep of the company as a framework they suggested to me. They must be actually using this. I felt pretty good and also pretty amused.

Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
Quick and dirty acquisition! Managing the launch of new markets, I needed to acquire 100 new users in a record time despite a lengthy onboarding process. I asked myself “where and with whom do these people hangout?”. Found an NPO that needed to place talents and could manage the onboarding. Trained one person that onboarded 50% of my needs instead of having to do it myself. Resulted in an executive 10 times faster.

Hi – I’m Srishti! I hate describing myself, because mentoring really isn’t about me, it’s about helping you solve problems, which is what I love to do. I’ve been lucky and gotten to work in a variety of roles – business development, founder, sales, strategy – and learned about lots of different aspects of successful businesses both startups and established companies. Describe an out of the box solution to a complex problem that made you proud of yourself?
One of the companies I worked for was struggling to reconcile their current state, two very different business that had grown organically, but with muddled operations and functional support, and their desired future state, which we were able to redefine as two distinct business and the incubation of a 3rd business unit at the intersection of their two existing motions that leveraged the best of both. Without that redefinition and a plan to evolve the company, their mixed businesses would have declined on all fronts while trying to be everything to all customers.
